Summer of 2014 at the DC Navy Yard
During his shadowing experience within the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarters, Command Information Office, (CIO), Stedman was able to observe a week in the shoes of the Deputy CIO, Mr. Brandon Jones. Throughout the week, Stedman participated in a variety of meetings, both external and internal to the CIO Support Line, providing a big picture view of information transfer up the chain of command from the support line staff and deputies to command senior leadership.
Stedman also observed a variety of routine IT support tasks from the different CIO divisions as well as learned about current IT projects being managed from the headquarters level. Routine tasks and projects observed for each division include:

- Management of the Command Application Portfolio and policy/process development
- Facilitation of strategic meetings for Portal migration and document management
- CIO2 – Information Assurance Division
- Cyber Workforce coding initiatives
- Navy Information System accreditation via the DIACAP program
- CIO3 – Information Technology Division
- Day to day end-user support
- Facilitation of status meetings regarding NMCI to NGEN computing network transition
- CIO4 –Industrial Control Systems Division
- Facilitation of strategy meetings related to the standup of the ICS program
- Stakeholder meetings with the NAVFAC Public Works and Total Force directorate for ICS staffing
- CIOR – IT Resources Management Division
- IT Budget formulation and Resource Allocation Plan (RAP) process
- IT Acquisition strategy meetings
- ITPR Process for requesting and approving the purchase of IT equipment
